Visiting Assistant Professor in Buddhist Studies at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey

The Department of Religion at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track position in Buddhist Studies during the 2014-2015 academic year. The position will be in a one-year, non-renewable contract.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience; the position carries a full package of university benefits.
Teaching duties for the position (of 18 credit hours, or 6 courses, for the year) will be a combination of courses in Buddhist Studies and Asian religions, depending on the specialization of the candidate and the needs of the department.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD in Buddhist Studies (East Asian, South Asian or Southeast Asian) or a closely related field, although applicants who are ABD will also be considered. The successful candidate will show evidence of commitment to dynamic and effective teaching and demonstrate preparedness to teach general courses in Asian religions as well as courses in his/her field of specialization, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate might need to help M.A.-level students with theses related to the candidate’s area of specialization.
