<p>The Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations, University of Chicago, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Hindi language and literature, with a <strong>preferred start date of July 1, 2014</strong>.</p>
<p>Candidates working in<strong> pre-modern and/or modern Hindi</strong> are welcome to apply.  <strong>Conferral of PhD by June 30, 2014 is highly preferred, and PhD degree must be conferred within one year of start date.</strong><br />
Teaching duties are a minimum of <strong>four courses per year</strong>, usually distributed over three quarters (autumn, winter, spring). Among the four courses taught, <strong>one must be offered in an undergraduate College Core sequence. The remaining three will include Hindi language classes at the advanced (Third-Fourth year) level, as well as individually devised graduate seminars</strong>.<br />
Applications should include a cover letter, CV, three letters of reference, teaching evaluations (if available), sample syllabi, and at least one sample of recent writing. None are returnable.</p>
